Deine Haut, Dein Typ: Trockene Haut

Your skin, your type: Dry skin

Each of us is unique. This also applies to our skin. Depending on what skin type we have, our skin has different care needs. If you know your skin and know what influences it reacts to and what needs it has, you can care for it in the right way - and thus even improve your skin's appearance in the long term. For this reason, we gradually dedicate ourselves to the different skin types, their characteristics and their needs. It starts with dry skin type.

Characteristics of dry skin type

The dry skin type tends to have brittle skin, which has a tendency to flakes and redness and can sometimes itch. It occurs when sebum production is too weak or the skin cannot retain moisture. Particularly affected are the parts of the body that have few sebaceous glands, such as knees, elbows, forearms, shins, lower legs and the eye area. The causes can be very different in nature. Often it is a personal lifestyle change such as a poor diet or increased consumption of alcohol and cigarettes. But hormonal changes such as during pregnancy or menopause can also promote brittle skin. Other causes can include skin aging but also skin diseases such as neurodermatitis or psoriasis. Especially in the winter months, warm, dry heating air can remove additional moisture from already stressed skin.

The right care

The best way to care for dry skin is to compensate for the lack of moisture and oil using suitable care products. The creams used can be a little richer. If necessary, you can also use a facial oil. In the evening, a facial serum with hyaluronic acid can help to bind moisture better. Fragrance-free products that do not put additional strain on the skin have proven to be particularly helpful. Basically, you should prefer a shower rather than a bath, as a full bath dries out the skin immensely. Also make sure to use lukewarm water when washing and showering. Hot water also contributes to dry skin. After washing, you should also gently pat your skin with a soft towel instead of rubbing it. Rubbing too hard would put additional strain on the skin that is irritated by the water. Creams that contain almond oil or body oils are suitable for the body. Many care formulas for dry skin contain the ingredient dexpanthenol. These products help your skin strengthen its protective barrier and thus prevent moisture loss. Basically, if your skin type tends to be dry, you should pay particular attention to your diet and lifestyle and reduce your alcohol and cigarette consumption. Drinking lots of water and eating fruits and vegetables that contain water can also be helpful.
